Location: Professor Paula Hammond, Department of Chemical Engineering, MIT
Position: Undergraduate Researcher (UROP)
Duration: May 2008-May 2009
Description: While I was an undergrad at MIT, I worked in the fuel cell and battery subgroup of the Hammond Lab. The Hammond lab works on layer-by-layer processes, where alternating positively and negatively charged thin layers of polymers are deposited in a water-based medium. Our efforts were aimed toward membranes that had high ionic conductivity with low electrical conductivity. I constructed the first polyphosphazene layer-by-layer membranes to ever be created and determined that they had improved ion conductivity relative to the state of the art.
Key Achievements:
- Created and tested membranes in a variety of conditions with varying humidity levels
- MIT News Article
- ACS Paper
